The red barn with a green gable. That's us - Green Gables of Pleasant Valley. This is where country dining and vintage shopping meet.
Established in 1992 by Bill and Denise Hartigan, Green Gables began just one year after the opening of Ashfall Fossil Beds. We proudly serve many of Ashfall's visitors since we're located just five miles from the state historical park.
Visitors often make a day of Ashfalls, Grove Lake, Grove Trout Rearing Station and, of course, Green Gables.
This location was once known as Pleasant Valley, something you're sure to notice as you travel down our quiet roads. We wave at everyone we meet, so be sure to smile and wave back.
We owned a gift shop in nearby Orchard, and when Ashfall's opened, moving the shop and opening a restaurant was the natural progression. We moved an old milking barn in and have been known as the red barn with a green gable ever since. The former milking station is now our kitchen. We added on our dining room, bathrooms and the entry.
Few leave Green Gables without having dessert. We're known statewide for our pies, which are baked fresh daily. Local favorites are also our bread pudding and brownie delight.
With casual dining, our wooden booths enhance the experience of Green Gables, where the food is home-cooked and meat is sliced in our kitchen.
While waiting for your meal, take a few minutes to peruse our gift shop upstairs, where you'll find everything from hand-crafted items and antiques to tantalizing handbags and holiday decor. Many of our items are one-of-a-kind. We're happy to help you shop online. View some of our items here. If you see something you like, please call us and we're happy to send it once we receive payment. Remember, we generally have just one of each item so hurry!
